Ausgust 2007
The July issue of "AERA English" published the experience of our student, Testsuya Abe, who had taken the Eiken 1-kyu essay course. An excerpt:
An excerpt from his interview in AERA English:
At Eiken 1-kyu, he tried to manage time. Learning from past examinations, he decided to begin from the essay writing section in the first 20 minutes. "If your brain is tired, you can't get good ideas to write an essay. I then answered all questions one-by-one, and I used the last 5 minutes to check my essay."
"i-osmosis' correspondence course for "Eiken 1-kyu essay" was very useful for the writing section. The course provides the same style topic as the actual exam which require to write essay about 200 words." He had taken this course 2 months before the exam. His essay was checked and he was advised on how to develop logic, how to use language, and how to insert examples; this helped him strengthen his arguments. The study materials were written in English, so he could get reading skills too. "In Eiken 1-kyu exam, you are required to read English fast to complete all questions, and also required to understand the detail of sentence. It wasn't enough to 'read English,' I had to 'read in English'."
Through his preparation for Eiken, Abe-san learnt how to express his opinion in English easily, and has also started an English blog. He will move to Hawaii in May, and looks forward to communicating in English there.
