What does English mean to you and to your country?
English has become the language I think in, and of course, am most comfortable expressing myself in. This helps me interact effectively with friends all over the world and understand their cultures better. Considering that English is a language that is universally spoken, it also helps to be proficient in it from the perspective of enhancing one's academic and career pursuits. India, over a period of time, has embraced the language and made it its own, while formally accepting standard English as one of its most used and preferred official languages. This has worked for the benefit of the country as a whole. I strongly feel, therefore, that for a country to gain the position it rightly deserves, knowledge of a language that is spoken by the world is absolutely indispensable.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
The interaction with people from various parts of the world and the thrill of watching a student develop a skill that he/she lacked and I helped him hone
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
The best way to improve one's skills in any language is to expose oneself to it as much as possible. In case of English, the best way to do this is to interact with native speakers and to read English books and magazines as much as one can. Another very good way of learning the language is to write in it. I strongly feel that blogs, journals, and diaries are the best way to improve written English skills. Constant practice, therefore, is the key! |

What does English mean to you and to your country?
English is the common language of communication among Indians who have different native languages. Most Indians studying in English medium schools begin to learn English as their first language from the age of three. English is significant even outside the educational institutions leading to a native-speaker like proficiency.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
Interacting with students and the fact that I learn as much as I teach. Teaching gives me the opportunity to write and talk about a subject I love and impart that love to others. When my student tells me that he/she has mastered an aspect of grammar or enjoys English, it makes my day.
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
My mastery of English came from my voracious reading habit. While reading, we automatically acquire many expressions, words, and nuances of grammar without consciously trying to learn these. This is actually the best way to learn. |

What does English mean to you and to your country?
English is probably one of the only languages to be accepted universally. To me, English is more than just a language; it is a tool that helps you express yourself to anyone across the globe.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
The best thing about teaching is that it enables me to influence a person's life. Teaching, according to me, is not a one way process. Both the instructor and the student get to learn so much in the bargain. It gives me immense satisfaction to bring about a positive change in the development of a person's skills.
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
To improve one's English writing skills, it is important that one constantly learns from his/her own mistakes and makes an effort to avoid repeating the same errors. Reading also helps in improving written English skills. |

What does English mean to you and to your country?
The first language I learnt was English, and this has helped me to learn more about the world around me. The best TV programs, books, magazines, and websites are all in English. Knowing English has helped me explore different cultures and lifestyles. I believe that it is our thorough knowledge of English that has helped India to succeed as a premier education destination in the world.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
When a student finally understands and imbibes what the teacher has taught him/her, I believe that the teacher feels a greater sense of achievement and pride than even the student.
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
I discovered the magic of writing at the age of 11 when I began writing my first diary. In my opinion, the best way to improve one's English writing skills is by constantly reading and writing as there is no end to learning new words, phrases, and styles of writing. |

What does English mean to you and to your country?
Although we Indians are not native English speakers, having English as the medium of education in school from our pre-primary days has made us so comfortable with the language that we even think in English! What does English mean to you and to your country?
English is the medium of instruction in most schools in India. Most Indians study English right from the beginning. It also serves the function of being the common language across the country for Indians who speak different native languages.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
To see learners implement my suggestions! It is a joy to see them consciously avoid errors and make efforts to improve their English.
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
It is very important to be able to think in English and not in one's native language. This can be achieved by reading books and writing as much as possible. Reading provides a good exposure to the use of various words and phrases. |

What does English mean to you and to your country?
English has been the medium of communication from my Kindergarten days. English Literature was easily my best area.
In India, English is the language that binds people from different states. English Medium schools teach not only English language but also all other subjects in English. Thus, English is very often the first or the second language for a majority of Indians.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
Teaching enables me to not only impart my knowledge but also to learn as much from the learners. It provides me with a platform to exchange different ideas, perspectives, and other interesting information.
What is the key to improving one's English writing skills?
Practice and perseverance are the essentials that can help you learn English, or any language for that matter. Being in an English rich atmosphere helps you imbibe the language quite easily. Experimenting with different styles and ideas widens your scope for improvement. Most of all, read as much as possible in the language. This helps in acquisition of the language in an almost unconscious manner. |
