| Questions regarding the use of English |

From application to evaluation, why is communication only in English? |
I am a little worried that all interactions are in English. Is there any advantage of using only English to interact? At i-osmosis, all interactions happen in English for a definite reason. Constant interaction in English helps you to imbibe the language. If English is used only while writing an assignment, the language will only be learnt as a subject. In order to be able to think in English, constant exposure to the language is important. In case the learner makes errors in writing, the instructor will not only give tips but also encourage the learner to clarify doubts. While interacting in English, the learner can read grammatically and stylistically accurate English written by the instructor. Reading correct English plays a large role in speaking and writing correct English. |
| |
I am not sure if my level of English is advanced enough to take this course. Is there a general standard (for assessing my English skills) that I need to have?
In order to be able to take this course, you need to understand the topics, write your assignment on the given topic, and understand the evaluation of the instructor. However, as a general standard, only the learners with a TOIEC score of at least 650 can take our courses. If you are still in doubt, you can send a sample piece of writing to the Client Manager at apply@i-osmosis.com for confirmation. |
| |
Is British English used in the courses or is the course conducted in American English? As American English is accepted globally, we usually conduct our courses in American English. However, depending on the need of the learner, we also conduct courses in British English. If you prefer British English, please clarify this while applying for the course. |
| |
Are the instructors of i-osmosis native English speakers? Our lecturers come from varied backgrounds. The common bond that the instructors share is their love for the English language and an ability to teach the language such that it can be used in practical situations. i-osmosis has the advantage that all the instructors are its employees and none of them have been hired on a part-time or freelance basis. Being employees of the company, the instructors are trained well and are well-experienced in teaching written English. For more information on all our instructors, click here. |

I am interested to know about the quality and scope of English in India. Can you please give me some information on this matter?
India was a British colony for over 200 years. The English education system that was established in those days required all subjects to be taught in English. Even today, English is the principal language of instruction in most Indian schools and other educational institutes; hence, all coursework starting from primary school to university is undertaken in English. The government exams and other entrance exams for universities are also conducted in English. With a large English-speaking population, India has over 30,000 English daily newspapers. In addition, India is also the outsourcing hub of the world and is globally acclaimed for its expertise in the IT field. All the recognition is because of the ability of Indians to interact in the global language of the world—English. |

| |

| |
After a topic is sent, how do I submit my assignment? After the application process is complete, the learner's login information is send by mail. Using this information, the learner logs on to his/her personal account on the i-osmosis Learner Management System (LMS) known as my.i-osmosis or MIO. The topics and reading material can be downloaded from the learner's personal account. The assignment is also submitted in this manner. |
| |
If I do not want to use the LMS, can I choose to e-mail my assignment or send it to my instructor by fax? You can submit your assignment by e-mail or fax. If you choose to send your assignment by e-mail, please type it on an MS Word document and send it to us as an attachment to the e-mail. If you choose to send your assignment by fax, please inform us in advance by mail. You can fax the assignment to us at 03-4496-4557. The evaluations will be sent to the learner in either case by e-mail.
However, it is recommended that the LMS be used as you can not only download useful reading material from it but also interact directly with your instructor on a daily basis. Along with the assignments, this interaction will be very useful in improving your communication skills in English. |
| |
Is it necessary to have particular software to access my instructor's evaluation? Since you will receive all your evaluations as a PDF file, it is necessary to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. |
| |
Is it possible to submit an assignment even if I have crossed the deadline? The schedule is created in such a manner that it is convenient for the learner to submit the assignment on time. However, in case the learner is not able to submit the assignment on time, the learner is expected to inform the instructor about this and also let her know when the assignment will finally be submitted. The delayed assignment can be sent to the instructor through the Client Manager on apply@i-osmosis.com or directly to the instructor as an MS Word document attached to the Interact with your instructor forum on the MIO.
Please note that in case the assignment is sent late, the evaluation will be sent to the learner as per the instructor's convenience. |
| |
Is it possible to submit two assignments at a time? At i-osmosis, each assignment is evaluated in such a manner that the instructor gives suggestions on how the next assignment can be better than the present one. Although it is possible to submit two assignments at a time, it is better to submit them one at a time so that the suggestions given in one evaluation can be applied when writing the next assignment. This direct application of suggestions helps in imbibing the language more quickly. |
